Koinonia Camp Executive Director

Koinonia Camp and Conference Center, an American Baptist camp, located in Madison, Ohio, is looking to hire an Executive Director.

This is a year-round position responsible for the spiritual, programmatic, and operational leadership of the camp. The Director ensures that all activities align with the camp’s mission and promotes a safe, faith-based environment for campers and staff. The Executive Director reports to, and collaborates with, the camp's board of directors.

Key Responsibilities

• Spiritual and ministry leadership driven by passion and calling for camp ministry
• Provide vision and spiritual direction for the camp, ensuring all programs and activities are Christ-centered.
• Develop and implement strategies for discipleship, evangelism, and faith formation.
• Relational Skills: The ability to build authentic, Christ-centered relationships with a diverse range of campers, families, staff, and community partners, crossing cultural or socio-economic boundaries to share God's love and truth.
• Mission-minded: Deep personal commitment to the camp's Christian mission, proactively integrating faith formation and evangelism into all aspects of camp life, programs, and community interaction. It is a lifestyle, not just a job function.

Program and activity oversight

• Plan, develop, and oversee year-round programming, including summer camps, retreats, and special events.
• Oversite and development of equine programming.
• Create engaging, safe, and high-quality programs that align with the camp's mission.
• Lead the development of camp schedules, activities, and curriculum.
• Ensure all camp activities comply with government, insurance, and safety regulations.

Staff management

• Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of all seasonal, year-round staff, and volunteers.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and ongoing professional development to all camp employees, and volunteers.
• Manage staff performance, address conflicts, and conduct evaluations.

Administration and operations

• Oversee the day-to-day business management, including financial record-keeping, budgeting, and financial projections.
• Develop and implement marketing and promotion plans to attract campers and retreat groups.
• Handle camper registration, invoicing, and customer service.
• Collaborate with the Elected Board of Trustees, facility staff, equine staff and food service staff to ensure smooth camp operations.

Facility and grounds management

• Work with the property and maintenance staff to ensure all buildings, vehicles, and grounds are well-maintained and safe.
• Plan for property development and identify future maintenance needs.
• Maintaining, improving, and upkeep of the grounds, facilities related to animal care and boarding.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive staff training program that covers job responsibilities, safety protocols, behavior management, and faith formation experiences.

Community and donor relations

• Serve as the primary representative for the camp and build positive relationships with campers, families, churches, and volunteers.
• Work closely with the board of directors and fundraising committees on development efforts and donor cultivation.
• Communicate regularly with affiliated American Baptist Churches and other organizations.

Qualifications

• Faith: A strong, demonstrable Christian faith with a deep biblical understanding.
• Education: A bachelor's degree is generally preferred, with relevant fields including Christian ministry, recreation, business, or education.
• Experience: Significant experience (at least 3–5 years) in a leadership or administrative role within a camp or youth ministry setting preferred.
• Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. A successful candidate must be adaptable, creative, and experienced in problem-solving and budget management. Must have an aptitude and experience working with volunteers. The ability to honor the legacy that has built Koinonia while developing a vision to build Koinonia and move it into the future.
• Certifications : Current First Aid, and CPR certification are required. Lifeguard certification is desirable, but not required.
