Registration deadline is July 17, 2024.

The cost of the workshop is $25 to audit a course or $100 for Ohio Leadership Academy credit.

This is a wonderful opportunity. Don't wait to get involved!

Participants will have the opportunity to choose between one of two courses:

Managing Conflict: From Combative to Collaborative (Instructor: Rev. Dr. Edward W. Peirce)

Does your church experience conflict? As a leader, how do you handle conflict within your congregation? Are there ways to prevent conflict? Managing Conflict: From Combative to Collaborative will examine the characteristics and relational dynamics of conflict and teach you the necessary skills to mediate conflict in the church toward a constructive resolution.

Worship (Instructor: Rev. Dr. Merlyn J. Ruffin)

Are you a worship leader? Does your church struggle between corporate worship and living a lifestyle of worship? As a worship leader, do you just need to be refreshed with a new perspective? Worship will take you beyond the corporate experience and challenge you to personalize worship as an experience with God. Participants will explore the role of music ministry in worship and then learn to apply a lifestyle of worship back into the corporate church experience.

Instructors

Rev. Dr. Edward W. Peirce, founder of Resolution Dynamics, Inc. has developed a full-service dispute resolution, organizational conflict management, and dispute system design practice. He has created and developed mediation programs for court systems, schools (both public and private), and grievance processes for corporations and non-profit organizations. A major segment of Dr. Peirce’s practice is with Christian organizations, mostly churches but also Christian schools, universities, denominations, and international mission agencies. Dr. Peirce received his doctorate from Ashland Seminary, the focus of which was designing a conflict management system for Christian organizations.

Rev. Dr. Merlyn J. Ruffin has served in full-time ministry for over 20 years as the Director of Magnification at the New Salem Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. Keith A Troy. In this capacity, she provides leadership and direction for the music, worship arts, and prayer ministries. Dr. Ruffin’s mission is to serve in the area of music and worship arts to create an atmosphere where the power of God is experienced, and his people are inspired and incited to worship Him. She received a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary. The title of her dissertation was, “The Effectiveness of a Hybrid Spiritual/Business Management Model in Music Ministry.”

Both courses can be taken for Ohio Leadership Academy credit. HOWEVER, anyone can audit the courses for continuing education. We encourage pastors, ministry team leaders, and lay leaders to consider either of the two courses as an opportunity to develop their ministry skills.
The Summer Training Workshop will occur on August 17th at New Salem Baptist Church, 2956 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, Ohio. The workshop will begin with Welcome and Worship at 9:30am. Courses will begin at 10am. Lunch will be provided at 12pm. For those auditing a course, training will conclude at 3pm. Students taking either of the courses for OLA credit will be asked to stay until 4pm so they can meet with the instructors for further assignments.

The cost of auditing the workshop is $25 for one person, or $20 per person if more than one person is attending from the same church. Registration costs cover lunch and instructional materials. For those wishing to receive Ohio Leadership Academy credit, the cost is $100. Additional reading and writing assignments will be required to receive Ohio Leadership Academy credit. Before receiving credit, all Leadership Academy students are required to fill out a student application form and be accepted into the program.
