The latest news specifically for American Baptist Churches of Ohio.
Emerson and Ivy Wu of Karl Road Baptist in Columbus have been endorsed by American Baptist International Ministries to serve in Macau, a special administrative region of China, with the supportive partnership of Evangelize China Fellowship (ECF).
As IM Development Workers, the Wus strive to bring a new spirit to Macau. For a long time, Macau was known for its gambling casinos. Drug, alcohol and gambling addictions, crime and prostitution were rampant in this small congested region in which less than 1% of the population is Christian. However, under the new government, many changes are taking place. Better education and social service are two major areas that are creating opportunities for the younger generation. The Wus will serve in outreach to youth and college students and in the orphanage’s after-school program.
The recent Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board Senate Council meeting attendees included our own Rev. Thomas Gilmore (Cleveland, OH), Rev. Glenn Loafmann (Oberlin, OH) and Rev. Mark Farmer (Westerville, OH). It is great to know that our state is well-represented with the MMBB.
Church Mutual Insurance is our region's insurance company and they insure a large number of the churches in ABC/Ohio. They are currently offering a free e-newsletter that may be helpful to our churches as they develop or continue safe practices with children. It is easy to subscribe, just CLICK HERE.
The American Baptist Churches of Ohio joined together with Dare2Share Ministries for ABC/Ohio’s annual ABY Convention February 4-6, 2010. We joined thousands of other youth at Dare2Share in Columbus … then met the ABC/Ohio youth Friday night at the Drury Inn in Grove City for an After Party. It was an evening with teens from other ABC churches where we enjoyed food, fun, and new friends. Then, we shared in worship on Sunday morning at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Columbus. ABC-Ohio is FOR SALE! Well, not quite! But we are selling our offices. As a part of the ABC/Ohio vision the region is selling it’s current home office in Granville and will be relocating following the sale. This continues the work of the Transformation Team as it worked to develop a plan for the future over the last few years. This plan is coming to fruition in various changes across our region which includes the sale of our home office.
