Since 2009, the "Buckeye Mission and Ministry Offering" (BMMO) has become a significant avenue for churches in the Region to support the ministries of ABC/Ohio. BMMO helps make it possible for ABC/Ohio to serve your church.

The American Baptist Churches of Ohio, or ABC/Ohio) is a fellowship of American Baptist Congregations.  Our vision is to help congregations “Rise up and build healthy churches that impact the world for Christ."

We are making a difference!

-Pastors are being encouraged and equipped in ministry.
-Churches are being assisted in calling new pastors.
-Regional Staff are consulting with churches to improve ministry health.
-Resources are being provided to strengthen ministries
-gatherings are equipping churches for ministry.

The Buckeye Mission and Ministry Offering helps make it possible for ABC/Ohio to serve your church.  100% of your offering will go to this purpose.

Leadership Academy

ABC/Ohio is committed to developing servant leaders.  In more than 12 years, the Leadership Academy, or Lay Pastor Training Program, has graduated over 200 servant leaders.

One such graduate is Pastor David Fanon, who answered the call to pastor East Baptist Church in Columbus.

In the past two years one of East Baptists new visions for ministry has touched lives through their “Peace and Plenty Community Garden.”  This ministry was assisted by an ABC/Ohio Local Church Ministry Grant.

Dave’s ministry at East Baptist is making a difference as the church experiences new life and signs of renewed health.  This was made possible by God’s grace and ABC/Ohio’s commitment to develop servant leaders.

Ordination

Helping people respond to God’s call for professional church leadership through ordination also develops servant leaders. 10 to 12 people from all walks of life serve the Kingdom in ministry and leadership through ABC ordination each year.

One recent candidate is Duane Binkley by the Springfield Baptist Church in Akron.  Duane served as an American Baptist Missionary in Thailand.  With the recent immigration of Burmese refugees, Duane has helped plant new churches for refugees seeking an American Baptist identity.

Through ordination Duane seeks to strengthen his ministry in planting new churches.  ABC/Ohio’s partnership with Springfield Baptist Church and the Akron Baptist Association, helped Duane reach this ministry goal.

Local Church Ministry Grants

ABC/Ohio is committed assisting churches that have a vision for new ministries through The Building on Common Ground Local Church Ministry Grant.  The annual interest from the fund provides start-up grants for new outreach ministries.

Since 1999 over $125,000 has been awarded for new ministries that have impact to this day, such as Upward Sports and Back 2 School.

Through Upward Sports, churches engage children both to play and to hear of God’s love.

Churches like First Baptist Jackson, First Baptist Sunbury, and First Baptist Mount Vernon have been helped to launch this ministry.  Mount Vernon alone expects to touch the lives of over 250 children and their families as they begin their third season of Upward Soccer.

Through the Back 2 School program in 2009, the Toledo Area Baptist Association received a grant to reach out to children in need of school supplies.

The ministry brought families together for a day of fun and fellowship at the local fairgrounds.  The children received donated backpacks and other needed school supplies.

Back 2 School and Upward Sports show how churches can come together with the help of ABC/Ohio to impact their communities for Christ.

Ministry Gatherings

Encouraging, Equipping, and Empowering

Each year ABC/Ohio gathers pastors, church leaders, and members for times of inspiration, fellowship and learning.

The theme in 2010, “Worship, A Sacrifice of Praise” was emphasized in the spring conference with worship specialist Brad Berglund.  Brad equipped 150 church leaders to reinvent their Sunday worship service.

Dr. Carolyn Gordon, Professor of Communications from Fuller Theological Seminary, was the keynote preacher at the Annual Gathering in the fall.  Dr. Gordon inspired attendees to consider new ways to bring life into their worship.

Both events inspired and challenged participants to make “God Exalting Worship” a renewed emphasis in their local churches.  Giving to BMMO helps provide quality ministry gatherings such as these.

ABC/Ohio Regional Ministry Team

Serving and Equipping Churches through Ministry Excellence
ABC/Ohio Regional Ministers build vital relationships with pastors, churches, and associations through ministry excellence.

One example is First Baptist Mount Gilead’s search for new pastoral ministry in 2008 and 09.  Through the relationship with their Regional Minister the search committee was assisted in the process of finding new pastoral leadership in co-pastors Joshua and Kelly Melvin.

The ability for the local church and prospective clergy to consult with Regional ABC/Ohio staff during the search helped bring new health and vital ministry opportunities to Mount Gilead.

Call to Action

Get Connected – and Give
BMMO gifts help develop, coach, and assist servant leaders.  Provides new ministry resources for local churches, and helps provide quality ministry gatherings to challenge and grow healthy churches.

Each of the ABC/Ohio’s Congregations is called to join in ministry opportunities.

Please consider giving to the BMMO. This is one way your church can partner with ABC/Ohio to fulfill God’s mission in your community and beyond.
