The following is a collection of reports from the 185th Annual Gathering . . .

Saturday Morning - October 9, 2010

Saturday morning closed our Annual Gathering with a final seminar led by Dr. Carolyn Gordon.  Rev. Dr. Larry Swain, Executive Minister provided the Benediction for the Annual Gathering as we ended looking forward to what God has in store for ABC/Ohio in the coming year.  The next Annual Gathering will be held October 13 to 15, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Columbus-Worthington.  See you there!

Friday Evening - October 8, 2010

What a night of worship and celebration!  We began with our welcome by Rev. Dr. Larry Swain, Executive Minister.  This was followed by music from Alicia Campbell.  We entered into a time of worship and teaching which began with and inspiring time of praise and worship music with our good friend Mark Townsend.  Dr. Carolyn Gordon concluded our evening as we focused again on worship - motivational, humorous and truly inspiring words from an amazing lady.  We have been very blessed to have her as a part of the Annual Gathering.

Friday Afternoon - October 8, 2010

It is time to work on the business of the American Baptist Churches of Ohio.  We are preparing for some momentous changes in our region and this will result in changes to our constitution which will result in structural changes within our denomination at the state level.

Friday Lunch - October 8, 2010

The ABC/Ohio Ministers Council Luncheon was a time to gather and worship with ministers from across the state.  We were welcomed by Rev. Ken Whitt and enjoyed an address by National Minister's Council leader Joe Cutter.  We were inspired to begin our own Communities of Practice and come to the realization that ministry is much more effective when we work together with other ministers.

Friday Morning - October 8, 2010

A breakfast was shared by many to start the second day of the American Baptist Churches of Ohio Annual Gathering.  The sun is shining outside and the Son is shining inside as the prayer room is open and we are getting set for another great day.  Dr. Carolyn Gordon led our morning seminar as she looked at the biblical basis for "A Sacrifice of Praise."

Thursday Night - October 7, 2010

Our own Rev. Kevin Thomas guided us into our worship as he sang to open our time together.  Mark Townsend continued our time of worship as he brought his guitar to the stage to lead us in a time of praise and worship.  Barb Duncan graced the stage next as she presented a wonderful rendition of a monologue about the meaning of worship and a "sacrifice of praise." Rev. Chris Thomas then led us in a time of prayer. Dr. Carolyn Gordon presented a powerful message about recharging our worship through a sacrifice of praise.

Thursday Dinner - October 7, 2010

The Celebrating Healthy Churches Ministry Banquet was an opportune time to gather and fellowship with leaders from across the state.  It was a joy to hear Rev. Mark Click as he presented the Healthy Churches Award to two churches in different areas and with different foci who have both seen growth and change in their particular ministries.

Thursday Afternoon - October 7, 2010

The 2 PM Plenary session on Thursday, October 7 began with a time of worship followed by the Executive Minister's Region Ministry Report.  Rev. Dr. Lawrence O. Swain presented a report that both took a look back and into the future with his report titled "Moving ABC/Ohio into the Future."  Dr. Swain said that we need to not only "recognize change" but to "address change."  In this post-modern world of facebook, multi-media, etc - the church must meet the challenge head on.  Dr. Swain said, "I don't need to remind you that change is hard.  But change is necessary."  It was a wonderfully inspiring message about the future of ABC/Ohio.

Thursday Morning - October 7, 2010

Thursday morning, October 7, 2010 kicked off with three great luncheon meetings:  the American Baptist Women Ministries of Ohio, the Ohio Baptist Education Society and the American Baptist Men's Luncheon.  Each organization heard about the latest activities of the respective organizations and plans for the future.
